Autoliv had record-breaking profits for the fourth quarter of 2009. There was a powerful increase in demand in China and the company is planning to build a new factory there. Automotive manufacturers Daimler and Renault plan to enter a long-term partnership surrounding the small car and light truck markets.
Autoliv had record-breaking profits for the fourth quarter of 2009. There was a powerful increase in demand in China and the company is planning to build a new factory there. Increased production in low-cost countries is paired with a greater focus on the Japanese market and in particular Toyota, who handles much of production internally but is open to letting a global supplier in.

 
Chalmers
Maria Grahn with the Energy and Environment Department at Chalmers University Technology estimates that no more than 28% of Swedish road traffic will be running on renewable fuels in 2030.

Daimler Renault Tata
Automotive manufacturers Daimler and Renault plan to enter a long-term partnership surrounding the small car and light truck markets. Daimler will, however, be selling its 5% ownership in Tata.

 
Effpower
Effpower develops lead-acid batteries and will also soon begin manufacturing batteries. The company has received an infusion of capital in the amount of SEK 80 million. Half of this amount came from the Swedish governmental venture capital company, Fouriertransform. The other half came from current owners AB Volvo, K-Svets, the Lundin group and Banner in Austria.
GM Ford Toyota
Ford and GM got an opening when Toyota's quality problems escalated on the important US market. In February, GM was up by 12%, Ford by 33% and Toyota down by 9% in comparison with February 2009. Independent quality assessments show that Ford and GM can compete at Toyota's quality level. Ford and GM are targeting Toyota owners and offering them $1,000 in rebates.

 
Renault
Renault believes in a powerful expansion on the Russian automotive market. At the Renault factory in Moscow, they expect to put out 160,000 vehicles next year. Russia currently has a motor vehicle density of 230 vehicles per 1,000 persons and an average vehicle age of 12 years. Motor vehicle density in Western Europe is 600 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants.
 

Saab
On Monday, March 22, Saab started up production at its Trollhättan plant again. They expect to put out 1090 vehicles a week - Saab 9-3's and a pre-series 9-5.
 

Emissions on the decrease in Sweden
CO2 emissions from vehicles in Sweden decreased in 2009, but in comparison with the Italians and the French, Swedes still have heavy and thirsty cars. CO2 emissions from vehicles in Sweden decreased in 2009 from 174 g/km to 164 g/km
 

Volvo Car Corporation
The joint electric vehicle project between Vattenfall and Volvo CC is progressing and from 2012, both V 70's and C 30's will be available as plug-in hybrids.
 
The Volvo S 60 was received with great interest at the Geneva Motor Show, but uncertainty concerning the sale of the company is pulling attention from the products.
 
Geely and Ford signed an agreement concerning the sale of Volvo CC to Geely on Sunday, March 28. Further permits from China are needed before the deal is finalized, something that is expected to be announced in the third quarter of 2010.

 
AB Volvo
Still pretty tough out there on the markets, but AB Volvo is preparing for an upswing and rehiring personnel in Umeå and Tuve.

VW
Sales increased somewhat from 2008 to 2009 (+0.6%), with a total of 6.3 billion vehicles sold. Of the group's nine makes, Scania and Audi are doing best and Seat is having trouble. In 2009, VW bought 19% of Suzuki and 49.9% of Porsche. The group has about 368,500 employees.
