Politicians from the Mälar region want to invest in electric infrastructures in order to support the electric car development. The municipalities in Mälardalen would like to be predecessors within the environmental area. DI Debate Municipal politicians May 7.
EU harmonize requirements for cars
It will become easier to purchase cars anywhere within the EU. The EU will issue a certificate that shall apply throughout the EU irrespective of where the car was purchased. SvD May 8.
Municipalities inform about electric cars
The municipalities of Sundsvall, Östersund and Trondheim have produced an extensive guide with electric and hybrid cars. The latest version from April of this year includes 83 models. All models are available to purchase in Sweden. Ny Teknik May 12.
The Government doubtful of Chinese owners
The Government is doubtful of Chinese owners for Saab and Volvo. The cultural difference and hesitation from important suppliers involving releasing latest technology in the case of Chinese ownership is the reason for the Government´s standpoint. DI May 11.
Weak productivity in Swedish automotive industry
The level of productivity and competitiveness in the Swedish automotive industry is poor according to an analysis by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. The report was severely criticized by the automotive industry, which means that conclusions that the American automotive industry is superior to the Swedish and German fails in its own unreasonableness as we witness the manufacturers´ crisis in the USA. Ny Teknik May 14.
War of words
The Government and Volvo Car Corporation are waging a public war of words. Volvo Car Corporation accuses the Government for its belief that EIB funds are going to the USA and have therefore broken off negotiations regarding government guarantees for the EIB loan. Volvo Car Corporation will hold discussions regarding guarantees from the Belgian Government for the EIB loan, which is a challenge directed to the Swedish Government. DI May 16.
The Government delays conversion
Per Kågesson is accusing the Government of delaying the development of environmental cars at Volvo Car Corporation and Saab by providing subsidies to larger cars only because they can be driven on ethanol fuel. That has reduced the pressure to convert. Ny Teknik May 19.
Many applications
The new state-owned risk capital company Fouriertranform has received approximately 100 applications from companies within the automotive industry seeking capital for development projects. Ny Teknik May 20.
Prepared to invest when question of ownership is clear
The Government is signaling that it can quickly invest SEK 5 billion in relief loans to Saab when the ownership situation is cleared up. DI May 22.
Take care of suppliers
Svenåke Berglie, President of the Scandinavian Automotive Suppliers is critical that the Government is not investing in providing direly troubled suppliers with loan assistance. Without the suppliers there is no Swedish automotive industry so it is not enough to only help Volvo Car Corporation and Saab. SvD May 22.
Magna best
Magna´s offer is of more interest than Fiat´s says the German government representative. Both offers include personnel cuts: Fiat 18 000 and Magna 10 000. Fiat speaks mostly about rationalizing and restructuring while Magna has new development ideas. Fiat is, furthermore, demanding more money from the German Government. Just Auto May 22.
Government´s development project has been useful
An evaluation of the state-owned Vehicle Research Program (FFP) has been conducted. The program has been ongoing for 15 years and the Government has invested SEK 30 million per year with industry contributing the corresponding amount. The project was carried out in collaboration with colleges and universities. The report was commissioned by Vinnova and demonstrates that the programs have had a positive affect on the automotive industry. The Government and industry have become more collaborative partners instead of adversaries. Industry has become persevering in projects since it is difficult to shut down projects when the Government is a co-financer. The future perspective has not been sufficiently prominent in many cases. The role of the suppliers is so important that they must be included in this type of development program. SvD May 23.
Unions share information
Metallfacken in theUSA ,Italyand Sweden met and discussed support to the automotive industry. Sweden is worst at supporting its automotive industry according to opinion, and the unions assert that they are cooperating in order not to be outmaneuvering each other. GP May 26.
