GM
· GM has agreed to sell Opel to Magna. Magna will purchase 55% of the shares together with Russian Sberbank. GM will retain 35% of the shares and Opel personnel will receive 10%. All sections of the agreement are not yet finalized, but because of the decision Opel will receive the necessary capital from the German Government in the amount of €4.5 billion. The Opel plant in Antwerp with 2 000 employees and the plant in Luton employing 4 600 people are expected to close when Magna reorganizes Opel/Vauxhall. GP, DI, SvD. Sept. 11.
· GM is reemploying 2 400 persons when three American plants start a third shift. Due to reduced inventory and plant closures the remaining plants need to increase production. SvD. Sept. 23.

· Magna plans cutbacks when it takes over Opel. 11 000 of Opel´s 45 000 jobs will be cut, and that means that the Opel plant in Antwerp will be closed. 4 000 of the 24 000 German jobs will be cut. GP. Sept. 23.

· Chinese Geely has officially confirmed that the company will purchase Volvo Car Corporation. GP Sept 9. Geely retracted this statement later in the week.
· Volvo Car Corporation´s negotiations for a guarantee loan of SEK 2.1 billion from the Belgian Government as guarantor is going well and Volvo Car Corporation is counting on receiving the funds in October. The loan will be taken with Flemish private banks, which is faster than the EIB. Negotiations with the Swedish Government for guarantee loans with EIB are on ice. DI. Sept 8.
· The consortium Jakob led by chairman of the Akademikerförbundet at Volvo Car Corporation has been afflicted by difficulties. Little chance of securing financing and Roger Holtback departure from the group has affected the chances of a takeover negatively. Later in September Gören Gyll was said to be interested in supporting the consortium. DI. Sept. DI Sept 28.
· Volvo Car Corporation is investing in electric cars and has built an electric run prototype of the C 30. If and when this car is put into production is uncertain but Volvo Car Corporation will produce a chargeable hybrid by 2012. DI. Sept 18.
· Volvo Car Corporation believes in a volume increase for the rest of the year and are increasing production by 10 000 cars equally divided between Ghent and Torslanda. Volvo Car Corporation´s assessment is that production in 2009 will total 350 000 cars. GP. Sept 16. DI. Sept 17.
· Geely is acquiring some financial muscle in order to purchase Volvo Car Corporation via Goldman Sachs Capital Partners. Experts allege that this demonstrates that Geely is approaching final negotiations with Ford for purchase of Volvo Car Corporation. SvD Sept. 20.
