European jobs going abroad?
Roland Berger Strategy Consultants recently presented a report on developments in the global automotive industry. They see a risk for a scenario in which 300,000 jobs in the European automotive industry disappear, moving primarily to China.
They also see a problem in the fact that different regions in the world are choosing different technical solutions. Europe is moving toward small and efficient diesel combustion engines, the US toward hybridization, China toward electric drivelines and South America toward ethanol motors. The big growth areas for automotive production are China, India and Brazil. The automotive world is dominated by just a handful of major automakers - the five largest account for 52% of global vehicle sales.
