Hello Pether Wallin, AstaZero CEO...
What is AstaZero?
"It's a technologically advanced test facility that will be built outside of Borås, near Hällered, Sweden. Previously, a great many safety developments depended on passive safety, but AstaZero will enable us to take a giant leap forward in developing active safety that combines sensor technology, vehicle communications and embedded computers. The track will have four test environments including city conditions and a winding country highway."
Who will the facility be open to?
"Trade and industry, academia, and R&D players. This can include companies big and small who will jointly have access to a facility that is unique in global terms. There will be around 20 research personnel on site once the facility opens, which is anticipated to be in 2014."

How will AstaZero be financed, and is financing in place?
"Chalmers University and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden own the track jointly. Industry will provide certain revenue guarantees and business during a five-year period. Total financing is not yet in place, but we anticipate that it will be during the fall of 2011.

When is the track planned to be ready?
It should be inaugurated, up and running in 2014.

What will this mean for Sweden and AstaZero?
It means Sweden can maintain its leading position within vehicle safety and that we will have a world class R&D environment for vehicle safety research. If we don't invest in AstaZero there is a great risk that Swedish companies will locate this kind of research somewhere else in the world.
