New generation Volvo engine to be built in Skövde
On July 14 the Board of Volvo Cars resolved to adopt the strategic proposal regarding the next generation of Volvo engines, production of which will take place in Skövde.
“An extremely gratifying piece of information for Volvo Cars' engines division. The investment means that Volvo Cars' engine division will play a central part in making the next generation engine family a reality. The new engines will include architecture for three fuel types, gasoline, diesel and ethanol, and eight versions that will meet all global statutory requirements from 2013 to 2017," says General Manager Oskar Falk.

The new engine family will be introduced by Volvo as part of its new VEA strategy — Volvo Environmental Architecture, a technology campaign that seeks to reduce emissions and consumption in tomorrow's Volvo engine generations. The engines are developed by Volvo in Gothenburg for manufacture in Skövde. Connecting rods will be produced in Floby, Sweden.

-“Right now engineering work for future engine production is in full swing. Installation and commissioning of the new facilities will take place over the next few of years. In principle the transition will take place within the existing factory walls in parallel with today's production," says Oskar Falk.
