Portugal charges ahead
Portugal is investing heavily in electric cars. The country is building a nationwide network of charging stations and has developed a payment system for electricity "fill-ups." Private buyers receive a subsidy of 5000 euro and are exempted from vehicle taxes. Portugal expects to have 2,000 electric vehicles on the roads by the end of the year, and aims to be "the living lab" for electric vehicles in Europe.
