Situation in Japan worsens
With lowered credit ratings and a record-high national debt (204% of GDP), Japan now embarks on an arduous reconstruction effort after the natural disasters earlier this year.
A strong political consensus on reconstruction financing will be required to boost confidence in the country's progress. Japanese consumers have traditionally been on the cautious side, but a shift was just beginning to be seen when catastrophe hit.
