Subsidies do not affect the sale of electric cars
The automotive intelligence provider Jato in the UK has studied how subsidies influence sales of electrical vehicles in Europe and has found that today such subsidies play no significant part in a purchaser's choice. Other factors determine the decision, such as environmental concerns, beneficial parking permits and the right to use bus lanes, etc.
European electric vehicle sales reached 5,220 during the first half of 2011. The corresponding figure for the previous year was 500 units. In Germany, 1,000 electric vehicles were sold in the first half of 2011, with a German subsidy of € 380 per vehicle. In the UK and Spain subsidies amount to € 6 500 per vehicle and sales for the first six months reached 599 and 122 respectively.
