On January 29, 1886, Carl Benz submitted his patent application for a "Motorwagen", and that August, Gottlieb Daimler's patent for a gasoline-powered four-stroke engine was approved.
In 1888, when Carl Benz's wife Bertha completed a 194-kilometer journey with the "Motorwagen," the automobile became something more than just a plaything or experiment. The first car in Sweden was unveiled at a show in Göteborg in 1891. From a historical standpoint the car is still a rather new invention, but it has significantly changed our world and our opportunities.
