World's biggest electric taxi fleet
For the past year, Chinese battery company BYD has been testing the world's largest all-electric taxi fleet in Shenzen. The taxis have driven a total of almost 3,000,000 kilometers through extreme winter and summer conditions, and continuous 20-30 minute rapid charging did not show any noticeable deterioration to the battery.
The passengers have been very pleased with their journeys, according to Stella Li, Senior Vice President of BYD. This summer, they'll be delivering another 250 taxis to the city. Calculations show that the electric taxi fleet helps lower Shenzen's CO2 emissions by 60.4 kg per day per taxi - over one ton a year - in comparison to a similarly sized fleet of gasoline-powered vehicles. The battery is based on Iron-phosphate technology. Source:
